Washington's late heroics lifts Hatters past Dolphins on Senior Day

DeLand, Fla. -- Chloe Washington led the Stetson University women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Jacksonville University Sunday afternoon as the junior netted a pair of goals in route to the Hatters sixth win of the year. 
 
In the 87', the Hatters and the Dolphins were knotted at 2-2 when Washington netted the game-winning goal for her second score of the match to give Stetson the 3-2 win. 
 
The Hatters (6-9-2, 3-4-1) battled the Dolphins (6-8-3, 1-6-1) for 90 minutes Sunday afternoon as Stetson celebrated the program's Senior Day. Jacksonville found the first shot opportunity in the 3' of action and another in the 5' but neither found the back Stetson net. The Hatters first shot came in the 20' but then eight minutes later on their third shot, Washington put the Hatters up 1-0. Stetson took the 1-0 lead to intermission. 
 
After the half, the Dolphins tied the match at 1-1 in the 48' as Anna Remensnyder found the back of the Hatters net. Stetson responded quickly as Evie Wysong scored on an assist from Kyleigh Thelen to put the Hatters ahead again. The Dolphins continued to be resilient as JU tied the match at 2-2 in the 82' on a goal from Logan Gonzales, but it only set up Washington's heroics in the 87'.
 
Stetson outshot JU 14-10 on the afternoon as the Hatters had nine shots on frame. Jackie Fiacco had six shots for the Hatters while Washington netted her only two shots. 
 
The Stetson University women's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 23 as the Hatters travel to FGCU for their final regular season match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
